Kids try their hand at making sushi in hospital

2017-01-10

JOHOR BARU: A group of children had a fun-filled day learning to make sushi at KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital here. Muhammad Harith Zulkarnain, 11, said he was feeling bored before the activity. “I really had fun making sushi as I love Japanese cartoons. My favourite Japanese anime character Crayon Shin-chan can always be seen eating it. “Before this, I kept myself occupied by watching my favourite cartoon on my parents’ mobile phones,” said Muhammad Harith who missed the first day of school as he was recuperating in the hospital following his circumcision operation. His father, construction supervisor Zulkarnain Ismail, 53, commended the hospital for organising the event which had managed to put a smile on the children’s faces. The sushi-making competition saw participation of children between the ages of four and 12, comprising the hospital’s in-patients and their siblings. Construction engineer Chang Chuen Meng, 40, too said his oldest daughter, six-year-old Candace Chang, loved taking part in the activity. “My second daughter was admitted to the hospital due to a viral infection. “I brought Candace along to keep her company and have some fun too,” he said. All the children were awarded with goodie bags containing stationery and colour pencils. They also listened to a talk conducted by dietician Nur Hafizah Hadi on the importance of eating healthy. KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital public relations executive Lilian Wong Ee Min said they wanted to give the children an opportunity to feel better and bond with their family members.- The Star
