KPJ STRIVES TO CULTIVATE SAFETY AND QUALITY IN WORK CULTURE

With the theme ‘Enhancing the Culture of Safety & Quality’, KPJ’s 8th Medical Conference saw the participation of more than 300 guests.

The nation’s largest healthcare conglomerate in Malaysia regards their annual Medical Conference this year as a gathering of KPJ medical consultants and management team, to focus on enhancing and improvising KPJ’s already well-built reputation as the most preferred healthcare provider.

With the theme ‘Enhancing the Culture of Safety & Quality’, KPJ’s 8th Medical Conference saw the participation of more than 300 guests.

‘The theme is crucial in our daily practices as a healthcare provider, as safety and quality can determine the success of a company, especially in healthcare. We have never compromised in giving the best of services with high level of safety and quality in our 27 years of being in the industry. I feel that this conference can further enable us to inculcate safety and quality into our work culture’, said Tan Sri Muhammad Ali, Chairman of KPJ Healthcare Berhad, who also acts as the Chairman for KPJ Medical Advisory Committee.

The 2 day conference started off with a pre-conference workshop, where both representatives from the medical and nursing discipline discuss about KPJ’s Patient Safety Goals, which are guidelines that KPJ applies to further adapt impeccable service and delivery. The conference itself saw many renowned speakers from various disciplines including from the Ministry of Health, presenting their respective papers, on topics including on severe obesity, national patient safety & clinical Indicators, stem cell research and therapy, chronic pain management and health tourism. Also included were talks on nursing and management, all in the aim of pursuing the goal of being a healthcare provider which highly regards safety and quality in their daily practices.

Besides being beneficial to the company, the conference acts as point of reference for KPJ to surmount the challenges the industry brings. ‘Being number one in the industry does not mean that we must be comfortable with our pace. In truth, as we expand and exceed, the trail we run becomes more challenging and we need knowledge and tools to overcome these challenges. This conference is one of our strategies in making sure that we are well equipped and will continue being a step forward in order to maintain being where we are now,’ said KPJ Managing Director, Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir.

The conference also saw KPJ giving out RM 10, 000 donation to two charitable bodies- Persatuan Kebajikan Darul Hanan and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Islam Batu Pahat, Johor, which are shelters dedicated for the orphaned. On the same gesture, AmBank (M) Berhad presented KPJ with a cheque of RM 37, 700 for KPJ to purchase a new dialysis machine for the usage one of KPJ’s charity clinics, Klinik Waqaf An-Nur Sungai Buloh. KWAN also receives support from WyethAid Charity Fund Malaysia to combat pneumococcal disease by vaccinating children from the lower income group with up to RM 80, 000 worth of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV7).

‘I have to thank AmBank and WyethAid Charity Fund for their efforts in collaborating with us. These collaborations have made KWAN well equipped clinics despite of them being for the lower income group. This shows that KPJ does not compromise the quality of care in our services no matter who our customers are,’ said Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah.
Klinik Waqaf An-Nur and Dialysis clinics (KWAN) are the main community project extensively undertaken together with JCorp. With a network of 9 KWAN clinics nationwide, these clinics are equipped with 42 dialysis machines, providing consistent life-saving care for more that 150 kidney patients. KPJ’s direct contribution to KWAN for year 2007 was RM800,000 other than managing the clinic operations, including provision of the doctors and nurses.
