KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Companies under Johor Corporation Group (JCorp) contributed a total of RM1.844 million in zakat (tithe) to two state Islamic councils, said its president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Datuk Muhammad Ali Hashim.

He said two of the companies, involved in fast food management, paid RM691,154 in zakat to Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan, and RM1.153 million to Lembaga Zakat Selangor.

Meanwhile, its healthcare arm, KPJ Healthcare Bhd contributed RM50,000 and RM300,000 to Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan and Lembaga Zakat Selangor respectively.

"We hope the contribution will help those in need of assistance," he said at the launch of Tijarah Ramadan's fifth season here today.

Tijarah Ramadan is a television programme aired during the fasting month of Ramadan. It is a collaborative effort between JCorp and Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia, specially designed to help the less privileged in the community.-- BERNAMA
