The   dynamic   Datin   Paduka   Siti Sa'diah, the Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare Berhad may very well earn the reputation of being Malaysia's own Florence Nightingale. We had the opportunity to meet the articulate lady recently to learn more about her involvement in the healthcare industry.
KPJ Healthcare Berhad is the healthcare division of Johor Corporation (Jcorp) in Malaysia and is one of the leading private healthcare providers in the region with a network of 19 hospitals in Malaysia, three in Indonesia, one in Bangladesh and two in Saudi Arabia. Datin Paduka Siti Sa'diah was quick to point out, "With more than 3,000 licensed beds, KPJ hospitals offer a comprehensive range of medical services and have treated more than two million outpatients and 200,000 inpatients in 2008. We are by far the largest medical healthcare group in Malaysia."
Indeed, building upon more than 28 years experience in the healthcare industry and supported by more than 650 Medical Consultants with staff strength in excess of 6,000, KPJ hospitals have many renowned experts in cardiology, orthopaedic, plastic and reconstructive surgery, among others. Equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and using the latest surgical techniques, KPJ hospitals have attracted many foreign patients from all over the world. It certainly looks like health tourism is set to take off big time!
"The inflow of medical tourists to KPJ hospitals is a testimonial to our high quality standards in the healthcare delivery, whereby, KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital was awarded the MATRADE Export Excellence Award by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry Malaysia in 2007," said a proud Datin Paduka Siti Sa'diah.

KPJ hospitals have achieved many milestones in its quality initiatives. Five of the "hospitals have been accredited by Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) for their continuous quality improvement in healthcare delivery. KPJ hospitals also received international certification from TUV Rheinland for Integrated Management System (IMS) that integrates and emphasises on Quality Management System MS ISO 9001:2000), Environment (MS ISO 14001:2004) and Occupational, Safety and Health (OSHAS 18001:1999).
"KPJ received The Brand Laureate Award in Healthcare (Best Brand) in 2008 which honours the group for practicing brand excellence in Malaysia and globally," said Datin Paduka Siti Sa'diah. "I am really pleased to see KPJ getting the recognition and being seen as a deserving brand amongst multinationals and public listed companies that have shown best practices in branding."
Indeed, the many accolades that KPJ hospitals have received over the years led to numerous invitations to venture into hospital management services locally and abroad.
"I would really like to see KPJ hospitals and other

tourism industry," — Datin Paduka Siti Sa'diah
According to Datin Paduka Siti Sa'diah, during an economic downturn, it does not mean there are no opportunities for growth. On the contrary, there are perhaps more opportunities present in a less competitive market as most companies are looking into consolidating their businesses as opposed to expansion. "One of our main KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) is to build a new hospital locally or abroad in every
Financial year. Even in the current economic downturn, we are moving forward with our expansion plans as we believe we have the right resources to build and manage a large healthcare network," said an enthused Datin Paduka Siti Sa'diah.

Evidently, holding the position of Managing Director for the KPJ Group leaves little room for breathing space, let alone personal time but somehow, Datin Paduka Siti Sa'diah has managed to squeeze in some precious time for her family and hobbies. If she does have some spare time, she likes to read management books, swim and travel.

"Next week, I will be flying off to Dublin, Ireland to visit my daughter and grandchildren," said an elated Datin Paduka Siti Sa'diah. "I miss my grandchildren and my nice hot chocolate in the Irish capital!" she smiled, ending the interview.
