KUALA LUMPUR: Kumpulan Perubatan Johor Sdn Bhd (KPJ), a subsidiary of KPJ Healthcare Bhd, has allocated RM32.8 million to build the first phase of its upcoming hospital in Kangar, Perlis.
The first phase is expected to be completed by December 2013 and opened to the public by January 2014.
Its managing director Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir said the hospital was a 60:40 collaboration with Yayasan Islam Perlis (YIPs).
"After almost a year of discussion, we have agreed to jointly develop the hospital which will be named Perlis Specialist Hospital and located in Pengkalan Asam, Mukim Seriab, Kangar," she said.
Under the joint venture, YIPs will provide a land measuring 4.3 acres for the hospital, while KPJ will leverage on its 30 years of healthcare experience to develop and provide its related services to the running and operation of the private specialist hospital.
The total cost of the hospital covering two phases of development, including buildling cost and medical facilities, is estimated to amount to and looking to expand its network of healthcare services to various parts of the country.
"In 2010, KPJ recorded a revenue of RM1.7 billion. Besides that, KPJ’s market capitalisation, which is worth more than RM2 billion, has placed it among the 100 Bursa Malaysia listed companies with new market capitalisation record with KPJ’s market cap as of June 30, 2011 standing at a value of more than RM2.6 billion;’ she added.
The hospital in Kangar will be built under two phases with the first phase to offer the services of 60 hospital beds and the latest diagnostic equipment including magnetic resonance imaging (Mm) as well as a 64-slice computer tomography (CT) scanner and other latest medical equipment.
