KUMPULAN Perubatan Johor Sdn Bhd (KPJ), a subsidiary of KPJ Healthcare Bhd, has allocated RM32.8 million to build the first phase of its upcoming hospital in Kangar, Penis.
Its managing director Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Shcikh Bakir said the hospital was a 60:40 collaboration with Yavasan Islam Penis (YIPs). We have agreed to jointly develop the hospital, which will he named Perils Specialist Hospital and located in Pengkalan Asam, Mukim Seriah, Kangar.’ Under the joint venture, YIPs will provide land measuring 4.3 acres for the hospital while KPJ will leverage on its 30 years ot healthcare experience to develop and providc its related services to the runfling and operation of the private specialist hospital.
The total cost of the hospital, covering two phases of developrnent including building cost and medical facilities, is estimated to amount to RM47 million. The first phase is expected to he completed by Dccember 2013 and opened to the public by January 2014.
Siti Sadiah said KPJ was growing and looking to cxpand its network of healthcare services to various parts of the country.
In 2010, KPJ recorded a revenue of RMI.7 billion. Besides that, KPJs market capitalisation, which is worth more than RM2 billion, has placed it among the top 100 Bursa Malavsia-listed companies. KPJs market cap as of June 30, 2011 stood at more than RM2.6 billion,’ she added.
The hospital in Kangar will be built in two phases, with the first phase to offer the services of 60 hospital beds and the latest diagnostic equipment including magnetic resonance imaging as well as a 64-slice computer tomography scanner and other latest medical equipment.
"The second phase will see the addition of 30 beds or more, depending on the prevailing demand, Siti Sa’diah said in her speech at the signing of the agreement between KPJ and YIP in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Indirectly, the state of Perlis will also see a significant development and a push for its other related industries while benefits are brought to the population of more than 50,000 in Kangar and the people living in other towns of Perils, she said.
Also present at the event was Penis Menteri Besar Datuk Sen Dr Md Isa Sabu, who is also YIPs chairman.
