KPJ Health Care carnival draws the crowd

More than 1,200 KPJ Health Care Group staff from its 23 hospitals nationwide descended on Penang recently to take part in the group’s annual sports carnival 2011.

GEORGETOWN: More than 1,200 KPJ Health Care Group staff from its 23 hospitals nationwide descended on Penang recently to take part in the group’s annual sports carnival 2011.

Seven contingents, made up of KPJ hospitals and subsidiaries from across the country, took part in the five-day sports carnival hosted by KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital with the theme "Go Beyonc Limits".

The sports carnival was graced the group’s managing director Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir in a colouful opening ceremony that saw the crowd mesmerised with various shows such as paragliding, Chinggay performance and a brass band performance.

Present were KPJ Penang executive director, Ahmad Nasirruddin Harun, chief executive officer, Mah Lai Heng, medical director Dr Ewe Khay Guan and chief nursing officer Teh Lee Wah and other officials from the group.

After the opening ceremony, the participants battled out in street basketball, dragon boat, table tennis. sepaktakraw, futsal, golf, tennis, volleyball, badminton, bowling, paintball, scrabble, draughts, Bestari chess game, netball, darts, telethon, football as well as a "Bomba Race" and Penang Heritage Trail.

Siti Sa’diah said the objectiVe of the Games was to provide an opportunity for the staff and consultants from the group hospital chain to meet up with their friends and colleagues from other parts of the country.

After the five-day battle, the lion King Contingent that comprised KPJ Penang, KPJ Ipoh, Kedah Medical Centre and Taiping Medical Centre emerged as the overall winners. Lion King bagged 16 medals, comprising 10 gold, four silver and two bronze.
