KPJ promotes healthy habits during fun day out

Some 500 people participated in a fitness walk organised by KPJ Specialist Hospital at the Polo Ground last Sunday.

The event, titled One World, One Home, One Heart, was held in conjunction with World Heart Day Celebration today.

All participants gathered as early as 7am, and started off with an aerobic exercise.

This was followed by a demonstration on how to give aid to a heart-attack patient, staged by KPJ team.

Other activities included a blood donation drive, colouring contest and health screening. There were also 20 booths promoting health products and healthy cooking.

Taking the prizes for the Fastest Walking Participants were Dr Prem Adheesh Lekhi (men’s category), Yuen Kim Peng (women), IMalaysia (team) and Dr Kamarudin Seenimohd with Zaiton 0thman (romantic team).

KPJ chief executive officer, Mohd Nasir Mohamed. said a silent killer for the women," he said.

"The afflicted age group is between 45 and 60 years old, but 80 per cent of these cases can be avoided if preventive steps are taken." Mah encouraged people to undergo regular medical check-ups and risk modification in their lifestyle.

Also present at the event was KPJ deputy medical director Datuk Dr S. Jenagaratnam, while experts were available to demonstrate methods of performing cardiapulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and self-examination for potential breast cancer.

The hospital’s cardiologist also gave a talk on healthy eating and heart-related issues.

In another event, KPJ feted 30 orphans from Rumah Kanak Kanak Sultan Abdul Aziz, Kuala Kangsar for a Hari Raya Adilfitri celebration at its hospital premises.

KPJ’s Muslim consultants and management also distributed duit raya to the children and presented a washing machine to the home.
