KPJ Healthcare Bhd is set to build five new state-of-the-art hospitals in Malaysia with an investment of RM760 million, in line with the government’s intention of improving the health travel segment under its National Key Economic Areas.
KPJ managing director Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir (picture) said the largest private specialist hospital operator will require some three years to develop the five new hospitals, which will create 3,000 jobs.
The hospitals are expected to contribute an estimated RM1.2 billion in gross national income for the country by 2020, she said.
The initiative was one of the nine new Entry Point Projects announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak at the ninth update of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) yesterday.
The new hospitals are KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital, Sabah Medical Centre, Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital, KPJ Pahang Specialist Hospital and Datuk Onn International Specialist Hospital in Johor.
The investment of RM760 million will fund the construction of these five new hospitals with a total of 822 beds, with available capacity for further expansion in future years.
Out of the five, two hospitals will be opened next year, another two in 2013 and the final one in 2014," she said.
101 Oleochemicals Industries Bhd, a division of 101 Group, will be investing RM13O million to expand its downstream oleochemical derivatives production by building a new production facility at the Prai Industrial Complex.
101 Group chairman Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng said the new facility will have two plants to produce glycerol derivatives, bio-lubricants and other speciality fatty esters.
The project will create 80 jobs, with at least half of them skilled, when it reaches its optimal operation level. It is also expected to generate cumulative gross national income of RM194 million by the end of 2020.
He said the two new plants are expected to be operational in the middle of 2013. Bernama
