KPJ to build Perlis Specialist Hospital

KPJ Healthcare Bhd (KPJ), a leading private healthcare provider in Malaysia, is spreading its wings to build an eight-storey specialist centre in Pengkalan Asam, Perlis.

Construction of the Perlis Specialist Hospital, the first private specialist centre in the state, will begin in January, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Isa Sabu at the ground breaking ceremony for phase one of the project costing RM30 million.

He is confident the hospital would he able to make a mark in luring medical tourism given the states strategic location and growing population despite the fact that the Tuanku Fauziah hospital in Kangar was already serving patients from outstation.

KPJ managing director Datin Paduka Siti Sadiah Sheikh Bakir (picture) said the 60:40 joint venture project with Yayasan Islam Perlis would be completed in two years and would serve some 240,000 residents in Perlis.

The 900-bed specialist hospital specialist have three operating theatres including an intensive care unit, delivery room, physiotherapy facilities, accident and emergency unit and a 24-hour outpatient unit.

Currently, KPJ has 800 specialists serving more than two million out patients and about 220,000 inpatients at 20 of its hospitals in Malaysia and two in Indonesia.

It is currently building the KPJ Specialist Hospital in Klang, which will begin operations by year-end, the Muar Specialist Hospital and the Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital which will both open for business next KPJ, with more than 30 years experience in the medical industry, is among the best 100 companies listed on Bursa Malaysia.
