![]() SIBU: Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Second Minister of Finance and Minister of Local Government and Community Development launched the 'CT scan 64 Slice' at the Special Specialist Medical centre here in Sibu yesterday.
During the launching of the event, he told those present that the event was a very memorable one as it was the first to be installed in Sibu or central region of Sarawak.
He said the machine was a very powerful equipment that could scanned brain tumor, joints and the whole body and as such could be considered as an all-in-one machine, adding the state of the art machine could also help trace all symptoms of sickness.
Meanwhile on behalf of the people of Sibu, he wished to thank Kumpulan Perubatan Johor (KPJ Health Care) for the installation of such an expensive equipment costing almost RM2 millions and hoped that more people from the surrounding areas would use the machine for medical treatment and at the same time welcomed those from Kalimantan Indonesia such as from Pontianak for medical treatment and care and to help promote health tourism.
At the event, he also said that the government would soon establish better air link between the regions in order to promote health tourism, adding Malaysia was among the countries in the world that had the best medical service in which the government had spent about RM1.6 billion in recurrent expenditure.
However, he said not all medical services could be extended to every body as some areas were less accessible as these areas could only be serviced by flying doctor services which could only be done once a month.
Nevertheless, he said the services of the private medical practitioners such as the Sibu Specialist Medical Centre was very much needed to complement government medical services.
Wong also said that as people grew older, they were prone to sickness which could not be avoided and the best way to keep healthy was to do regular exercise and control on diet.
On medical expenses, Wong urged family members to help those members who could not pay for their medical expenses otherwise they could use their Employee Provident Fund (EPF) under account 2 to cover their medical expenses and the other alternative, Wong said was to buy health insurance which would be very useful when the need arise.
As a word of advise, Wong reminded that better health and quality of life could only be determined by oneself and whoever got sick should seek immediate medical attention.
