Dialysis centres for the underprivileged

KUALA LUMPUR: Underprivileged kidney patients on dialysis can opt for affordable treatment at the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Charity dialysis centres soon.

The first centre located near the Titiwangsa Lake will be operational by the end of next month after receiving the green light from the Health Ministry.

Based on its 30 years' experience in healthcare service, Kumpulan Perubatan (Johor) Sdn Bhd (KPJ) has been appointed to manage and operate the RM970,000 Titiwangsa dialysis centre, which is equipped with 18 dialysis machines to treat up to 72 patients a day.

The land on which the centre is located belongs to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Charity Golf (TSMCG) Council member Datuk Suhaimi Abdullah, who has leased the land to TSM Charity Golf Foundation (TSMCGF) at RM1 for 10 years with an option to extend the lease a further five years.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin witnessed the signing agreement between TSMCGF and KPJ yesterday.

Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas, a TSMCGF board of trustees member as well as TSMCG president, said three other dialysis centres would be built in the near future in Putrajaya, Pagoh and Johor Baru.

He said it was Muhyiddin who had made the idea to have the centre a reality to help the needy.
