Malaysia’s largest provider of private healthcare service gives back to the Middle Eastern community in a fun-filled, two day event.

With medical tourism increasingly contributing towards the overall economy, it has been targeted as a strong potential source of growth for KPJ’s total revenue stream. To help attract tourists, KPJ is committed to gaining recognition by bodies such as the MSQH and Joint Commission International, and to date has 11 hospitals carrying the MSQH certification, with two more slated in 2012.

As part of the group’s Corporate Responsibility scheme, there is a network of 17 charity clinics under the Klinik Waqaf An-Nur umbrella across the nation, as well as the charity Hospital Waqaf Pasir Gudang in Johor. More than RM4 million is contributed towards these clinics annually to provide clinical resources and absorb the cost of medication.

The latest KPJ branch to receive the MSQH-accreditation (Malaysian Society for Quality in Health), the KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital, was recently the site of cultural performances, lifestyle booths, bouncy castles for kids, a showcase of delicious Malaysian and Middle Eastern food and even appearances by mascots Upin & Ipin. All in a show of appreciation to the Arab community, which has done much to support the KPJ Group of Hospitals.

Since its inception in 1981, KPJ Healthcare Bhd has come a long way with no less than 21 private specialist hospitals nationwide, as well as two in Indonesia and a recently acquired retirement resort in Brisbane, Australia. A team of 8,992 staff delivers only the highest quality care and services across all these hospitals, having served more than 2.6 million patients in 2011, a landmark record fitting the 3o-year anniversary celebrated in the same year. As a result, the heathcare group received a number of awards, including ‘The Most Outstanding Healthcare Provider in Asia 2011’ by the Globals Over 50s Housing-Healthcare Awards, and the ‘Best Practises Award’ by Frost & Sullivan.

Development plans for KPJ are well under way with a number of new hospitals to be added to the group’s portfolio in the next five years. These include the Sabah Specialist Hospital, Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital, KPJ Pahang Specialist Hospital, KPJ Specialist Hospital Bandar Dato Onn, KPJ Perlis Specialist Hospital and KPJ Muar Specialist Hospital. These development plans fall in line with the Economic Transformation Programme, set in place by the government to develop the nation.
