PETALING JAYA: KPJ Healthcare Bhd's eye care centre, KPJ Pusat Pakar Mata Centre for Sight (CFS), yesterday extended its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by providing free cataract operations for 50 needy underprivileged and elderly patients.
These surgeries, to be performed within this month, would also include medication for the operations as well as followup treatment.
CFS executive director Datin Sabariah Fauziah JamaJuddm said the initiative was in collaboration with the Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara and CIMB Foundation.
"The total cost for this programme is about RM 175,000 and we will be joining hands to sponsor it for free to the visually handicapped persons.
"This is a part of KPJ's main CSR programme to help the community who are affected by cataract problem," she told Bernama after the 6th CFS' World Sight Day 2012 ceremony here.
Sabariah Fauziah is also Senior General Manager Group Human Capital for KPJ.
Also present were Lions Club President Lana Low, CFS Medical Director Dr Choong Yean Yaw and Petaling Jaya Selatan MCA Wanita Deputy Chief Datin Wong Fong Leng.
Meanwhile, Dr Choong said
CFS will open its third branch in Kuala Lumpur, to be located at the site of the old building of Tawakkal Specialist Hospital, in February next year.
CFS has invested some RM10 million to set up the new branch including medical equipment.
The centre's first branch was located in Rawang, Selangor. Established in 2004, CFS is a standalone eye specialist centre prior to its acquisition by KPJ in 2011.
At present, KPJ owned an 80 per cent stake in CFS and it planned to have full ownership by yearend. — Bernama |
