Big dose of healthy fun to mark World Heart Day

KPJ Penang chief executive officer Maria Khong said the theme for the World Heart Day was 'One World, One Home, One Heart'.

She said the health talk focused on cardiovascular disease prevention among women and children.

"This event is a platform for discussion on ways to reduce heart disease and strokes through diet and exercise," she said.

She was speaking after Penang Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh

officiated at the event at the hospital THE focus was all on having a happy, healthy heart.

KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital marked World Heart Day 2012 with various hearthealthy activities.

Highlights of the event included a Walk-A- Hunt and a public health talk entitled 'Love Your Heart' by the hospital's consultant cardiologist Dr Safari Elis. The World Heart Day is an annual event for the KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital to raise awareness about the need to lead a healthy life. in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam.

Also present was the hospital medical director Dr R. Padmanathan.

Khong said the hospital had also chosen to commemorate World Environment Day which fell on Sept 26.

"We also want to raise awareness about the need to protect the environment," she said.

She said KPJ Penang had conducted many activities to provide basic medical check-ups for the public and its medical consultants had conducted numerous health talks since the hospital opened in 2009.

She said the hospital would continue to carry out these social activities for the benefit of the community in general.

"We thank the community for their support for our projects," said Khong.

Earlier before Phee officiated the event, a team from Lily Modem Dance performed several dances including the famous Gangnam style.
