The placement of its last piece of brick laid by the KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s Managing Director, Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir, signifies the launching of the new building for the new KPJ Hospital at Bandar PERDA. The new building which measures 188,638 square feet in width will start to operate with 122 beds with a maximum capacity of 236 beds in July this year. Due to an anticipated increased in demand for private hospitals in the northern region, KPJ has identified the need for another new hospital at Bandar Perda to complement the current KPJ hospital namely Bukit Mertajam Specialist Hospital (BMSH). BMSH is a six-storey building located at Jalan Sungai Rambai Bukit Mertajam which is formerly known as Medicare Specialist Centre. Established in 1994, the hospital was built to fulfill the objectives of providing comprehensive and quality healthcare services to the population of Bukit Mertajam and its surrounding areas. The hospital has been achieving many success stories and is currently recognized as the leading specialist hospital in Bukit Mertajam. Managed by the experienced KPJ management team and equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities and equipment, the hospital’s name was then subsequently changed to Bukit Mertajam Specialist Hospital, to reflect the new ownership and management.

According to the KPJ’s Managing Director, Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir, the building of the new hospital is timely, due to the increased expectation of customers who need bigger capacity hospital with better facilities. The decision to choose Bandar PERDA for another KPJ hospital is substantiated by the fact that this new hospital needs to cater to customers in the northern peninsular and to complement the current capacity of BMSH. With a number of 20 consultants and more than 200 staff, this hospital is poised to achieve more ground breaking success in the near future.
