HEALTHCARE services provider KPJ Healthcare Bhd will be spending RM70 million to upgrade its information technology (IT) infrastructure into cloud based solutions for all of its 25 hospitals nationwide in the next five years.
The private healthcare group's 87%owned subsidiary, Healthcare IT Solutions Sdn Bhd (HISSB), has spent RM30 million on implementing primary operational documents into cloud based infrastructure and is gradually migrating its medical records and documents into cloudbased solutions. KPJ Rawang Specialist Hospital is the first hospital fully utilising the cloud based system whereby all of its clinical information system or KCIS, medical records and documents are cloud based and we will be migrating three or four hospitals into cloud based systems every year,"HISSB ED Yusri Ali told reporters in Rawang, Selangor, yesterday. KPJ Rawang, HISSB and Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) inked' a service agreement to provide TM's hospitality entertainment solution (HES) to KPJ Rawang, the first healthcare services provider to offer the facility in the country and the first enterprise customer to subscribe for the service. The HES will provide KPJ Rawang inpatients 'plug and play' Internet access, TM's entertainment package comprising in building broadband solution, Internet protocol television service, HyppTV, and a technical help desk service. HES is accessible in all rooms and waiting areas of the premises with patients able to enjoy five premium and seven free to air HyppTV channels. TM executive VP for enterprise Datuk Ghazali Omar said HES is targeted not only at hospitals, but also at hotels and resorts operators/ owners, apartments, condominiums and any building that needs wired/ wireless Internet access and uninterrupted TV channels via HyppTV. "The HES is our latest offering and 35 hotels in Malaysia have subscribed to the service with KPJ Rawang being the very first hospital and enterprise customer to subscribe for the service. The RM130 million KPJ Rawang, the 25th hospital of the KPJ group, has a capacity of 160 beds. It is currently operating with 30 beds and will open up more beds in the near future. The KPJ Group has 25 hospitals nationwide and plans are currently underway to open its 26th hospital in Muar, Johor, in the next two months. The company has invested in hospitals in Indonesia and Thailand, and is managing a hospital in Bangladesh together with an aged care centre in Australia. |
