City Hall to build cycling tracks to boost interest |

KUALA LUMPUR City Hall (DBKL) will construct cycling tracks linking residential areas, schools, and train stations to promote cycling among Kuala Lumpur folk. DBKL management deputy director general Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd said the tracks would be included in the masterplan for the planned cycling route that is expected to be completed by the end of this year. "Cities in other countries have implemented this to promote cycling. With the Kuala Lumpur Car Free Morning, more people are exposed to the sport. "I hope it will encourage the public to use it as a mode of transport to work or to school," he said during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri dodol cooking programme organised in conjunction with Kuala Lumpur carfree morning in Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. Mohd Najib added that the cycling track plan would be introducesin all parliamentary constituencies in Kuala Lumpur. "The cycling route in Taman Melati was completed last month. We will also add more signboards along the cycling route from Mid Valley to Dataran Merdeka," he said. About 3,000 people participated in the Car Free Morning. Also at the function were Mohd Najib with Bukit Bintang Central Environmental Committee president Simon Leong, Universiti Visitors also got to enjoy watching dance performances during the event.
