PETALING JAYA: KPJ Healthcare Bhd has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two Japanese partners to explore the possibility of developing a US$12mil oncology centre at one of its hospitals located outside of Jakarta, Indonesia.

The MoU is valid for one year.

The preliminary agreement sets out the tri-partite collaboration between KPJ, Sojitz Corp and Capital Medica Co Ltd for the setting up of a cancer treatment centre at Rumah Sakit Medika Bumi Serpong Damai (RS Medika BSD).

RS Medika BSD is a unit of KPJ.

“The collaboration will facilitate the sharing and transferring of medical technology and know-how between Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia that will serve as an excellent learning platform for our doctors and healthcare professionals,” KPJ said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

Sojitz is an investment company with a worldwide network comprising over 500 group companies and operations in more than 50 countries.

Capital Medica is Japan’s leading hospital and nursing home operator actively providing management and operation know-how of hospitals and elderly care facilities overseas, especially in Asian countries.
