09-10-2018

Kuala Lumpur, 9 October 2018 – In today’s age of digital disruption, business requires leaders who can create transformational change within their organizations. In fact, 21st century leaders must face the dual task of growing their entities while also sustainably embracing and implementing high-potential innovation.

KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s President & Managing Director, YBhg. Dato’ Amiruddin Abdul Satar is one such leader.  The vision and dedication upheld by KPJ under his leadership are clear, namely to fully embrace medical and operational technology throughout KPJ Group with the aim of further improving deliverables.

In recognition of his contributions, Dato’ Amiruddin was today named the Digital Transformation Leader (DX Leader) of the Year by the International Data Corporation (IDC). IDC is a provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and events for the information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets with a global presence. The IDC Digital Transformation Awards (IDC DXa) honors the achievements of organizations that have successfully planned and executed the digital transformation (DX) of one or multiple areas of their business through the application of digital and disruptive technologies within Asia/Pacific.

As the DX Leader, Dato’ Amiruddin has been a key driver of KPJ’s Digital Transformation initiative. Throughout his tenure, from 2013 to date, Dato’ Amiruddin has prioritized business agility and innovation, making it his personal mission to lead the adoption of digital technologies within and outside KPJ in the evolving healthcare industry.

KPJ has undertaken a groupwide adoption of the KPJ Cloud, which has reached 18 hospitals today. The KPJ group has continuously been reengineering and redeveloping its core applications, namely the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and the Enterprise resource planning (ERP) for cloud using browser based technologies.

Today, doctors do rounds with mobile devices, like iPads/Tabs and nurses take vitals and record the data through digital gadgets. Clinicians are able to save significant amount of time administering patients while increasing standards of safety and care.

In order to ensure that significant focus and emphasis is given to the development of innovation throughout the KPJ Group of 25 Malaysian hospitals, KPJ has also established a specialized unit focusing on the creation, development and implementation of New Products and Services.

A key milestone took place in 2017, with the game-changing adoption of the IBM Watson Technology for Oncology in five KPJ hospitals.  Watson for Oncology combines leading oncologists’ expertise in cancer care with the speed of computer technology to help clinicians as they consider individualized cancer treatments for their patients.  KPJ is the first healthcare services in the country that enables the service.

Dato’ Amiruddin highlighted that “If an organisation is really serious about Digital Transformation or Industry Revolution 4.0, leaders cannot only compute the returns on investment (ROI) on IT expenditure alone. Technology is an enabler, and the benefits will come in many forms especially in terms of greater efficiency which is difficult to measure.”

KPJ is, today Malaysia’s largest provider of private healthcare and healthcare-related services, with 25 hospitals throughout the country. KPJ has two hospitals in Indonesia, one in Bangladesh and partially owns a hospital in Thailand.  KPJ also has four senior living care centres, one each in Kuala Lumpur, in Sarawak, Pahang and Australia.

The Group continuously increases its capacity, primarily through the building of more hospitals and manpower development. To date there are more than 13,000 healthcare professionals and more than 1,000 medical consultants on board, treating more than 2.8 million patients annually.
