Seminar on improving patients recovery after surgery

JOHOR BARU: Some 100 medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, dieticians, physiotherapists and pharmacists, took part in the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) seminar with the objective of improving patients’ recovery process.

Participants came from several private hospitals to the event jointly organised by KPJ Healthcare University College and KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital.

KPJ Puteri consultant anaesthesiologist Dr Ponijan Pardi said the programmes were new and not yet available in nursing school syllabus.

“The seminar is timely for our doctors and staff to enable them to collaborate in enhancing fast track recovery of patients after surgery,” he said. 

Dr Ponijan said the objectives of ERAS included encouraging patients to be more productive, reduce medical leave, lessen use of painkillers and reduce hospitalisation stay and cost. -The Star
