IPOH: Doctors, nurses and other medical personnel should serve patients diligently and lovingly. Perak ruler Sultan Azlan Shah said service given with a sincere heart was a form of devotion to God. He said this at the opening of a new five-storey wing of the KPJ's Ipoh Specialist Hospital here yesterday.

Present were Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Bainun, Raja Di Hilir Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and wife Raja Puan Muda Raja Noor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and his wife Datin Seri Fatimah Taat, State Assembly speaker V. Sivakumar and state exco in charge of health A. Sivanesan.

Earlier in his speech, KPJ Healthcare Bhd chairman Tan Sri Muhammad Ali Hashim said with the completion of the RM31.5 million wing, the hospital's capacity had increased from 210 to 280 beds.

KPJ hoped the hospital's expansion would strengthen the group's efforts to contribute to the government's efforts to promote health tourism.

Ali Hashim said the hospital had admitted 1,015 foreign patients since 2006.
"KPJ will promote the hospital as a health tourism destination, especially among Indonesians from Sumatra," he said, adding that about 10 per cent of foreigners who sought treatment at the hospital since 2006 were from Medan.

With the new wing, the hospital is now the biggest private hospital in Perak.
